In Tornado Alley, the sky is our classroom.......

......Mother Nature is our instructor.

She is a demanding teacher
insisting attention to detail
if we are to reach her

and learn that day's lesson.

Every field trip is rich with learning
if we are willing to work
and not be blinded by yearning.

Seasoned eyes
can read stormy skies
like a road map as clear
as lines far and near.

Weather has rules
So say the fools
For storms do as they please
And that includes tease
Chasers scurrying on those tiny lines
like rogue ants eager to dine

on the feast that is a savage storm
from which tornadoes form.

Mesmerizing seduction.
Horrifying destruction.

Days of infamy
born from atmospheric symphony.

To succeed, one often has to fail - and fail often

This is a wonderful motivational video. I've heard most of these examples before, but they're still worth hearing again......

A blonde does math

I'm not really into "blonde jokes" ---- but this one will drop your jaw....if for no other reason than she's serious.

An Irish Blessing

On this St. Patrick's Day, you've probably come across many a "blessing" - some trite, some funny, some draped it cobwebs.

This one touches me with its depth........and so I share it with you.

"What?" A Dan Draper Master Class

This YouTube clip is meant as a humorous take on how often the "Mad Men" character Dan Draper said the simple word "What?"

To me, it's a fascinating reflection of how setting, inflection and tone can completely change the context of the use of a single word.

Video of the Henryville tornado

This was shot by Rhett Adams about a quarter-mile from the EF4 tornado's path. Viewer warning: His comments are laced with profanity.

A touch of breeze in Kansas today

Folks who choose to fly a kite in Kansas today would be wise to take a passport.

As I was driving east on Central from City Hall late this morning, dust was roaring north on Broadway so thick it looked like a dirty veil soaring 20 feet high. I could see farther east, or I would have stopped and called the newsroom with a news flash.

Trash swirled in the eddies of Wichita's humble structure spires. People bent into the wind, at times seeming to walk in place if they were going against gales that tickled 50 miles an hour.

Even inside the newsroom, an open door produced a howl straight from an Edgar Allan Poe story. It was as if the building were protesting the wind's sullen mood.

And if you were out in Wichita's central corridor, then March truly seemed to be roaring like a lion.

"It's spring in Kansas," a meteorologist told me.

And she was flexing her muscles a bit today.....

Alone in the desert...and loving it

I don't even know Maya Stein, but a friend of mine loves her blog, and if this post is any indication, I can see why.

Video of a tornado forming in a parking lot

This footage comes from a security camera... Folks are driving or walking through the parking lot literally seconds before the tornado forms. Amazing.

Bar kicks out Catholic group for being "too controversial"

I've just learned that Denver's version of "Theology on Tap" has been banned from a bar not far from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception downtown for being "too controversial."

Bishop James Conley, a friend of mine, spoke to about 300 people in a closed-off room at Stoney’s Bar and Grill on the topic “Atheocracy and the Battle for Religious Liberty in America.” I'm sure it addressed the Obama administration's attempts to force Catholic businesses to pay for insurance coverage of contraception and sterilization - both of which the Catholic Church has long opposed.

Apparently, at least one patron shouted profanities at Conley and the group, even though he was not in the group listening to Conley's presentation ---- and likely never heard a word of it from where he was sitting.

It strikes me as a reflection of the rising hostility the Church faces for standing behind long-held beliefs.
